at camp

i'm at camp this week with our group of 62...overall there are 1090 junior high and high school students here, a sad majority from texas. it's gross what passes for the love of Christ these days. and that the Bible belt claims to the embodiment of Christ and his love is honestly disgusting. not to say that there aren't wonderful Christian people in the Bible belt (at least a 100), it's just really sad to see resources being wasted on lavish churches, luxury church buses and cabins at this camp that would make hollywood stars in sun valley blush.

i tire of southern Christians who treat my wife like a child because she's a woman.
i tire of southern Christians who call EVERYTHING gay and talk so openly about sending "fags to hell."
i tire of southern Christians who glare at me because i wear a deep v-neck tshirt. really?
i tire of southern Christians who think our students are stupid only because they're from salt lake city.
i tire of southern Christians who think we're dumb because we don't wear camo hats, and don't scream and shout at and about everything.

God please redeem this time and make it about more than observing and picking up bad habits from the Bible-belt, southern world.

Texans are the quintessential "sad majority" in general.

But I must agree with you about the decay and sometimes decadence of the Bible-belt church culture. It's hard for many to see themselves objectively (as from the outside), so they fail to realize that in some respects this culture has become a wierd parody of itself.

Meanwhile biblical literacy, Christian maturity and commitment have laxed. Too many deacons send their spoiled princesses to a Baptist college with a new car and breast augmentation as a reward for graduating highschool and managing to not get pregnant.
